Coogee War Memorial Or Hadash was founded on our current site in 1960 by a group of Holocaust survivors who left devasted lives in post war Europe to seek a new beginning Australia. They had over the previous 8 years created a small Kehillah who worshipped together in a garage using a Sefer Torah borrowed from The Great Synagogue. At the time there were large number of young Jewish families living close by who banded together to form the nidus of what Coogee Synagogue was to become. If you would like to know more about our history please click on the following link ’Our Story’.
Today we have a membership of over 300 people. On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur it can be standing room only despite an extensive renovation which increased the seat capacity, having being completed as recently as 2005.
In the slideshow above you can admire pictures of our stained glass windows commissioned for the 2005 renovation.
